Nancy Davenport is the University Librarian at American University. Immediately prior she was working in Vietnam on an AID funded project to create a parliamentary library for their legislature. She has held senior positions at the Library of Congress as the Director of Acquisitions and as the Associate Director of Congressional Research Service (CRS). The CRS position took her to Central and Eastern Europe where over multiple years Ms Davenport directed a training program for the Members of Parliament and their staffs in the newly democratic states.
She has been the Director of Library Services at the Public Library of the District of Columbia and the President of the nonprofit think tank, The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR).
Ms. Davenport maintains active participation in the American Library Association and the International Federation of Library Associations. She is currently a Trustee of the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and the Washington Master Chorale. As the AU University Librarian, she is a founder of the Diversity Alliance of Academic Libraries.
Previous Board service includes the Board of Directors of the National Information Standards Organization and a Presidential appointment to the National Historical Records and Publications Commission at the National Archives. She has also served on the Executive Board of the American Library Association, the Board of Trustees of the Digital Library Federation, the Board of the National Humanities Alliance, the International Center for the Integration of Health and Spirituality, and the U.S. National Committee for UNESCO.
